Munchkin and Kinkalow Cats

Kinkalows, Knooks, Skookums, Napoleons, Munchkins

Standard Munchkins are cats with short legs and sweet, playful personalities. Munchkins are not hampered by their short legs. They run and jump and play just like any other cat. If a counter is a bit too high for them to jump to, they generally find a way to get there anyway :). Munchkins have been accepted by TICA and can be shown in TICA shows if they are at least three generations from any outcross.

Several beautiful, unique, healthy hybrid breeds have been developed from Munchkins. These hybrid breeds combine the short legs and wonderful personality of the Munchkin with other attributes from other breeds. KleineKatz Cattery is a member of The Designer Cat Association (TDCA). The goal of TDCA is to work with breeders developing new breeds of cats while making sure the cats are healthy.

At KleineKatz Cattery we currently breed mainly Kinkalows, but we will also have Munchkins, Napoleons, Knooks, and Skookums for sale. We will also have kittens who are Munchkin in appearance but won't have the three generations of pure Munchkin behind them in order to be shown in a TICA show. This, of course, makes no difference when what you want is a wonderful, loving, playful pet.

So, what is a Kinkalow, Napoleon, Knook, or Skookum?? A brief description of each follows. (For more information on these breeds, go to the TDCA web site):

KINKALOW: A standard Kinkalow is a cat with short legs like a Munchkin and curled back ears like an American Curl. Kinkalows can registered with TICA, where they are currently considered an experimental breed. They can also be registered with TDCA. Nonstandard Kinkalows are American Curl in appearance. They will have the curled ears but normal length legs. We have some beautiful nonstandard Kinkalow kittens for sale now.

NAPOLEON: A standard Napoleon is a cat with short legs like a Munchkin and a rounder, flatter face, and more cobby body like a Persian, Exotic, or Himalayan. Napoleons were accepted for registration in TICA in 2005. They can also be registered with TDCA.

KNOOK: A standard Knook is a cat with short legs like a Munchkin, curled back ears like an American Curl, and curly hair like a LaPerm. Knooks can be registered with TDCA.

SKOOKUM: A standard Skookum is a cat with short legs like a Munchkin and curly hair like a LaPerm. Skookums can be registered with TDCA.

All of the breeds above, as well as Munchkins, come in many colors, and may have long or short hair. In any of these breeds the term "standard" means they possess short legs as well as the other mutations standard to the breed. The term "nonstandard" generally means they have normal length legs, although they may possess the other mutations standard to the breed. So a "nonstandard" Kinkalow would look much like and American Curl, and a "nonstandard" Skookum would look much like a LaPerm. Our goal in our breeding program is to produce beautiful, healthy, and extremely friendly Kinkalows, Napoleons, Knooks, Skookums, and Munchkins, and to place them in homes where they will be well loved, and provide joy and companionship throughout their lives. All our kittens are held and played with daily. They are raised in our home, underfoot, and around children.

Below is Mary, one of our females. She is a tortie point. Mary is a nonstandard Kinkalow, meaning she has long legs, but curled back ears. She recently had kittens with a white standard Kinkalow.
